Remote Working Arrangements (RWA) to Combat Brain Drain and Revitalize Rural Slovakia 🌟

Significance of this area for remote work

Apart from the main goal shared with other case studies, which is to bring a comprehensive understanding of remote work impacts across EU countries, the Slovak case study is exploring how remote work affects the problem of brain drain caused by young people moving out from rural areas to Slovak largest cities (Bratislava, Košice and Žilina).

Slovakia in WinWin4WorkLife

The Slovak case study began with an employer survey conducted by the company TREXIMA. The survey collected responses from over 500 employers in Slovakia, gathering data on their experience and attitudes towards remote work.

Further, UNIZA will organize a survey with at least 1000 employees to explore their experience, preferences, attitudes towards remote work and impacts on their working efficiency, family and local community life and health.

To gain more insights about the impact of remote work on mobility behaviour and to collect some valuable inputs for the modelling work, time diaries of at least 400 volunteered employees will be collected and evaluated.

As a next step, findings derived from collected data and analysis of household interactions will be verified by face-to-face interviews with at least 30 employees.

Finally, a 4-step traffic model of the Slovak road network at the resolution of almost 3000 zones will be amended to accommodate future scenarios to study a possible impact of remote work on mobility and environment.
